Cavitation

Bubbles can form when local liquid pressure drops below vapour pressure; subsequent collapse creates impacts.

Mechanism

Bubbles can form when local liquid pressure drops below vapour pressure; subsequent collapse creates impacts.

Typical symptoms

Broadband vibration, crackling and fluctuating performance may occur.

Measurement method

Measure vibration together with suction/discharge pressure, flow and temperature.

Alternative explanations

Turbulence, air entrainment and mechanical rubbing can produce similar noise.

Additional measurements

NPSH assessment, pump curve, suction line and operating point.

Likely frequency components

broadband / geniş bant / широколентов / banda ancha

Limitations: without speed, load, mounting and transmission-path context, these examples are not diagnoses. Spectrum examples are conceptual, not complete fault models or field measurements.

Model and assumptions

512 samples; deterministic sinusoids and seeded noise. FFT is one-sided peak amplitude, not RMS. Δf = fs/N. Hann coherent gain is corrected; spectral leakage can remain. The 4.7× component is not a physical bearing-fault model.

Educational model. Results are not sufficient to diagnose a machine or establish safe operating limits.
