Failure atlas
Read symptoms, measurements and uncertainty together.
Educational model. Results are not sufficient to diagnose a machine or establish safe operating limits.
Imbalance
An offset between the mass centre and rotation axis creates a centrifugal force that increases with speed squared.
↗02Misalignment
Connected shaft axes differ in angle or offset. Coupling type and thermal behaviour matter.
↗03Mechanical looseness
Loose joints or bearing clearances can create nonlinear contact and impacts.
↗04Resonance
Response grows when excitation approaches a natural frequency. Damping and stiffness govern the result.
↗05Bearing defects
A local defect on a rolling surface can generate impacts as contacts pass it.
↗06Gear mesh faults
Changing tooth-contact stiffness excites gear mesh frequency; damage can modulate that excitation.
↗07Cavitation
Bubbles can form when local liquid pressure drops below vapour pressure; subsequent collapse creates impacts.
